Current Status
At the present time, the airfield is officially an "enhanced relief landing ground" for no.1 Flying Training School based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. It is also home to:
-- Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron, operating Grob Tutor aircraft.
-- 3 Squadron of No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School, also operating the Grob Tutor aircraft
-- No. 9 A.E.F. (air experience flying for Air Cadets, sharing a common pool of Tutors with Yorkshire UAS and 1 EFTS).
-- 2434 (Church Fenton) Squadron ATC
The airfield sees regular use, with planes flying all week and the majority of weekends, and there is also some night flying from Linton-on-Ouse. In recent times, the Tucanos of 1 FTS have reduced their use of Church Fenton during the day, because of both the amount of Church Fenton based traffic and also the inexperienced pilots in Church Fenton's circuit.
