Future Developments?

As announced on the news page, it looks like Church Fenton's future is secure, for the short-term at least. On 21st September 2005, it was announced that Church Fenton is to become the home of a new unit - No. 3 Squadron of 1 Elementary Flying Training School. See 1 EFTS and Yorkshire UAS pages for more information. As a result, Yorkshire UAS will become a non-flying unit, and its aircraft will transfer to 1 EFTS.

There was talk of a new Ops room being built, although after the disbandment of JEFTS at Church Fenton in July 2003, this will not go ahead.

Some time ago, Defence Estates requested permission to demolish all of the technical site at Church Fenton, in the hope that they could sell the site off for re-development.

It is thought that they were un-successful, as the results of the public enquiry seem to preclude any major development of the site due to the existing services (i.e. sewerage, etc) not being able to cope with a large increase in usage, and the area not being able to support more development in general.

** April 2003 ** - It has been confirmed that the RAF have not been given permission to develop the site for housing.
