On Saturday 26th September 2015, Church Fenton’s first airshow for 21 years was held, and was a great success. A fantastic flying display, including a number of cold-war jets, helicopters and no less than three Spitfires graced the skies above CF on an idyllic late summer’s day. Arguable star of the show was BM597, the Spitfire Mk Vb which for many years sat outside SHQ at Church Fenton as the station’s gate guardian. Now restored and flying from Duxford, to see her in the skies above CF again was superb.
Plans for the use of the site for film use have been accepted, and transformation of 1 Hangar is currently underway. It is now the largest studio space in Yorkshire. Plans for the use of the old MT section as a demonstration area for Ginetta cars have also been accepted, again further boosting the site’s potential.
